Great wildlife; exceptional guiding. | On a Kafue Horse Safari you will be riding in an area of dangerous game and all riders should have an independent seat and be secure in the saddle should they need to react quickly if a situation arises. The riding is challenging and fast with long canters and gallops where terrain allows, some steep climbs and descents, river crossings and diverse terrain to cross. This safari is definitely not suitable for nervous or wary riders.
You will be riding in South African stock saddles which have been specifically designed for comfort and long hours in the saddle. Pelham bridles are used for control, although you will normally be riding on a loose rein.
All the horses have been personally selected by main guide Steven Rufus and are regarded as some of the best horses in the world of riding safaris. They have been chosen for their temperament, pace and confirmation. Breeds include the South African Boerperd, quarterhorse and thoroughbred-crosses, South African Warmblood. All the horse are fit, in excellent condition and happy in their work, sizes range from 14.3hh to 17.2hh.
The lodge consists of 6 beautifully-styled rooms all overlooking a central water pan where the game frequently comes to drink and view the tourists. Each room sleeps 2 and is made from traditional brick. The ensuite bathrooms are bricked on the back wall with beautiful views over the water pans, these have also been insect-proofed, but retain an open air feel. The decor is classic 'safari'.
A central 'lapa' has a dining and lounge area with a bar and overlooks the central pan where you can enjoy a relaxing afternoon with game viewings.
The entire camp is unfenced to allow all game access to the water pans and produce a wonderful wilderness experience.
