Ant's Lodges are located 3 hours northwest of Johannesburg, 4 hours Northeast of Madikwe, 3 hours south of Mashatu and 5 hours west of Kruger. These unique malaria-free bush homes are situated on a private game reserve in the Waterberg, South Africa – and offer great riding for all the family. Plus you can now enjoy a few nights at Ant's lodges new Lapalala Wilderness bush camp which will provide an amazing and interesting bush experience.

The horses at Ant's Hill and Ant's Nest are all responsive and well schooled. There is something for every type of rider. For non-riders - there are game drives in open topped vehicles which provide great game viewing. The slower pace of a walking safari may also appeal to some as your expert guide leads you to discover and explore all manners of African flora, fauna, animal tracks and terrain. For those who enjoy the slower pace of life lounging by the pool and enjoy the huge variety of birds is a fantastic option.
Ant’s Nest is probably the better lodge for families with very small children.
Example 7 night itinerary
What sets Ant's Lodges apart from the rest is the very flexible approach of the lodge teams to ensure that you have the holiday you want. You can choose what you want to do on a day to day basis. Below is an example of a typical week.
| Day 1 |
Arrive in Johannesburg and transfer to Ant's Nest (c. 3 hrs). Lunch and settle in before meeting the horses and an evening ride for a first view of the area. Return to the lodge as the sun sets for dinner and the night. |
Day 2
|
A wake up call and leisurely breakfast when you choose, or an early call when the light is best for game viewing and an early morning ride to explore the reserve. Stop for a delicious bush breakfast, then ride back to the lodge by a different route. A siesta by the plunge pool and after tea, a late afternoon ride out or an evening game drive with spot light. Dinner and overnight at the lodge. |
Days 3-5
|
Three full days of activities (or nothing) with your choice of morning, evening and full day rides, stopping for breakfast or brunch under a shady acacia tree, or how about a game drive or guided walk. |
Day 6
|
Breakfast and perhaps a guided day trip to the neighbouring Welgevonden Reserve (at extra cost). Return to your lodge for a delicious bbq under the stars. |
Day 7
|
Breakfast and transfer to Johannesburg for your onward journey or return home. |
