As Namibia has one of the most varied landscapes, most dramatic weather, scenery and fauna and is one of the largest countries in Africa, this makes for exciting and exhilarating riding. The trails here are endless and can go in unlimited direction, never coming across man made article. The horses are typically well bred arabs, bought for their stamina and competence in desert and arid conditions.
The owners of the ranches, studs and trail companies are often knowledgeable and passionate about breeding arabs, with many ranches having stallions and foals often in residence.
The trails are longer than other places and can last for up to 9 days, spending 6 – 10 hours in the saddle a day. For the more exhilarating rides guests must be experienced and comfortable with sensitive quality horses. The trails often go over ridges and dunes and some are amongst the big five. Ride through the red dunes or along the Skeleton Coast, through river beds and game reserves.
When To Go
There is no bad time to visit Namibia on holiday, but depending on what you wish to see, there are certain months that are better than others. The rainy season is from November to March, which is also when the temperatures are at their highest, sometimes reaching as high as 45°C in the far north and south of the country. Birdwatching is best after the rains when numerous flooded depressions attract migrant species
July to December are by far the busiest months for tourism and if you are planning to visit during this time - it is imperative that flights and accommodation are booked as far in advance as possible.
