Beginner

Beginners and children - there are plenty of places where guests can ride as a beginner - riding safaris for beginners with Ride Africa
Riding safaris for beginners with Ride Africa
These lodges offer quiet relaxing rides on well schooled, calm horses and ponies. The game viewing can be excellent with most lodges being in an area with a huge variety of game excluding predators. Many lodges which can accommodate beginners will be in an area with an abundance of elephant, rhino and buffalo, but no predators such as lions or leopards. The horses are all well schooled and brought up in the bush so they are used to the sights and sounds of their surroundings. The birding in these places is usually excellent and the pace can once again be chosen by the guest, stopping to look at any flora and fauna which interests you.

Many of these rides journey through the spectacular winelands where the scenery is enough to keep ones attention for weeks, wine tasting and staying in luxury country houses are also highlights, the cuisine is exquisite and the whole experience is relaxing where the horses stay overnight and spa treatments are available at most places.

Alternatively beginners can head out to the coast at Cape Town or to Plettenberg Bay for a ride on the beach, splashing in the surf and swimming in the sea with the horses.
